  we are all now at the hotel and everything has gone well today on Day 1. Two students didn’t feel well on the plane but they could recover by the time when they ate the evening meal.

  At Stanford University, we saw several school buildings such as the computer science laboratory which was built on the donation by Mr. Bill Gates. Besides, the school church was very impressive and we could experience the dignified atmosphere inside the church.

  After visiting Stanford, we went to SLAC and we were very overwhelmed with the 3.2 km-long experiment device which produced several Nobel Prizes in the field of high energy physics. Thanks to what we learned at Sp-ring 8 in Nishi-Harima, we could understand well what the researcher explained to us at SLAC.

  After SLAC, we drove on the highway and we could manage to see some part of San Andreas Fault line although it was drizzling and foggy.

  At the end of the day, we had dinner at the restaurant near Fisherman’s Wharf. The dinner was more gorgeous and bigger than expected, but every one of us really enjoyed the dinner. We also saw quite a few sea lions at the pier and they were crying noisily and loudly. One of the students was very impressed with the good taste of black tea.

  今日一日すべてが順調でした。今、ホテルにいます。2人が機内で気分が悪くなりましたが、サンフランシスコで夕食を摂るころまでには元気になりました。

　スタンフォード大学ではBill Gates（ビル・ゲイツ：マイクロソフト社創立者）氏の寄付で建設されたコンピュータ実習棟などいくつかの校舎を見学しました。大学内の教会はとても印象的で、教会内の厳粛な雰囲気を経験できました。

　スタンフォード大学見学後、SLACでは、高エネルギー物理学の分野でいくつかのノーベル賞獲得に貢献した全長3.2キロメートルの実験施設に圧倒されました。1年生の夏、「西はりま自然体験研修」で「スプリング８」を見学していたおかげで、SLACの研究者の方の説明もよく理解することができました。

　SLAC見学後、フリーウェイをバスで突っ走り、サンアンドレアス断層を見ることもできました。残念ながら、霧雨と霧がかかっていましたが。

　一日の終わりに、フィッシャーマンズ・ウォーフ近くのレストランで夕食をしました。料理は予想以上に豪華で、しかもたくさんありましたが、私たち全員、十分食事を楽しみました。また、桟橋ではたくさんのアシカが大きな声で鳴いているのも見ることができました。級友の中には紅茶の美味しさにとても感動している人もいました。
