“サイエンス・ダイアログ” 実施報告

３年生の生物選択者を対象に、「サイエンス・ダイアログ」を実施しました。この企画は、日本学術振興会（JSPS）のご支援のもと、国内の大学・研究機関等に在籍中の外国人研究者を高校に招き、研究や出身国について英語でご講義いただくプログラムです。
今回の講師は岡山大学のSamson Baranzan Wayah氏でした。“From Curiosity to Discovery”と題し、ご出身のナイジェリアについて、科学者を目指したきっかけ、そして情熱を注がれているバクテリオシン（乳酸菌がつくる抗菌ペプチド）の研究についてお話しいただきました。
生徒が最近授業で学んだ内容を踏まえていただきながら、質問やペアワークも挟み、専門用語も丁寧に説明してくださったので、英語の講義にもかかわらず生徒は引き込まれていました。
“あなたが科学を、生物学を学ぶモチベーションは何ですか？”“あなたが専門知識を生かして解決したい世界の課題は何ですか？”というDr. Wayahからの熱い問いかけに、参加した生徒も、自分が学ぶ意味や、大学以降に追究していきたいことを改めて考えさせられたようです。まずは数か月後に迫る大学入試に向けて努力を続けている生徒たちですが、その先の将来成し遂げたいことについて、思いを強く持てた機会となりました。
On July 31st, we were honored to welcome Dr. Samson Baranzan Wayah from Okayama University for a special lecture titled “From Curiosity to Discovery.”
Dr. Wayah gave our students powerful questions:
“What is your main motivation to study science?”
“What global problem do you dream of solving in the future?”
Students came to realize the importance of pursuing science with clear goals in their mind.
Students wrote in their feedback:
“I learned what kind of mindset scientists should have.”
“I haven’t decided what problem I want to solve yet, so I want to find it. I want to be a person who can contribute to Japan.”
